Doulos Orphanage in Yangon, Myanmar (Burma)

Doulos orphanage has been running since 2008 under the initial direction of Mike Abbott and later Clive Hebbard. Mike and Clive were later appointed as members of the Board of PaP at which time PaP became responsible for the oversight of Doulos. The objectives are to care for children, many from Christian backgrounds in a predominantly Buddhist culture. The Doulos Orphanage provides Christ centered and comprehensive care for children and youth from the Yangon region who would otherwise have no one to provide for their physical or spiritual needs. The ministry is run by Pastor Toe, his wife MayMay, and their dedicated staff who are currently providing for over thirty children aged from 6 to 18. Pastor Toe and his ministry partners (Partners Against Poverty) have a goal to help this ministry become a self-sustaining operation as soon as possible. To this end, the World Changers Ministry, together with a few other churches in Australia have helped set up a viable rice growing facility that provides direct food support for the children in the program. In addition to the care of the children at the orphanage, Pastor Toe and his family work tirelessly to train Christian ministers and have helped start many new churches. Objective: • Homeless children cared for in nurturing environment until reaching adulthood. • Provide Christian education and discipleship training. • To train the children in evangelism in order to see the Kingdom of God extended in Myanmar. • Provide additional education for the children due to poor and inadequate education in the public schools. • Facilitate the growing of rice in order to offset the day-to-day costs of sponsorship and help fund self-support. Results we would expect to see on project completion are: • Physical needs provided for the orphaned children. • Children chosen to commit their lives to Christ. • Children leave Doulos as mature adults who are strong in their Christian faith. • Children reach adulthood being well educated and able to find work in order to survive. Outcome: As a result of this project children are rescued from poverty, cared for, educated and trained in Christian discipleship so as to be mature Christian young adults who are able to have a positive impact in their own country and who have influence as Christian men and women.
