If you were to visit most countries in S.E. Asia you would quickly discover the hardship and deprivation affecting millions of people. Most of these families are trying to live out a miserable existence on the equivalent of less than $2 each day. In some areas many families live on less than 50 cents per day. This precludes them from having even the most basic of human necessities, shelter, fresh water, medical assistance, basic sanitary needs, education and in almost all cases food! They live constantly at the mercy of unscrupulous operators or money lenders who use every opportunity to derive profit from their desperation. Many of these people have the skills and motivation to change their situation, but lack the financial resources they need. A commercial loan is impossible and without a benefactor there is little chance of their future or the future of their children being any different.
